I've heard some complaints from non-citizens claiming that we're an illegitimate country because we were at a lack of a motto.  Well, what have you folks to say now that we do have a motto?  Many thanks to Citizen Grayson and Citizen Danny, both of you will be rewarded for your great help.  I'll find a good way to reward you... I haven't come up with a way yet.  Give me time.

Anyway, I'm certain that everyone is interested in hearing about this great motto!  I'm serious when I say that it's a good one.  Ready?

FOR GLORY AND WHATNOT
 [Enim Gloriae Quidnonique]

Isn't that just lovely?  Citizen Grayson and I came up with it a few days ago after a deep, deep conversation about how wonderful our country is.  The motto itself was a bit of an (while I hate to use this word, it's the best way to describe the event) epiphany and I really can't say what caused it.  No matter what may have sparked this brilliant motto, I love it.  It's short, sweet, and to the point.  This motto proclaims Ardent's glory, whilst still being flexible enough to proclaim all sorts of other things.  This "whatnot" could perhaps be in reference to our wonderful citizens, our magnificent constitution, or the freedom to put whatever you like on a sandwich!  I cannot think of a motto that better suits our land!  (Especially seeing as "For Glory and the Freedom to Put Whatever You Like on a Sandwich" sounds stupid.)

I personally don't know Latin, so I asked for a bit of help from Citizen Danny who managed to translate it for us.  Unfortunately, there is no word for "whatnot," so he made one up.  I'd say a made up word suits our motto and if anyone refutes this, then we can just return with "we do things our own way!"  For all of you interested in Latin or perhaps just want to know how it was translated out, feel free to continue reading as I have included the e-mail that Citizen Danny sent me.

Sorry it took me so long.  I was going to tell you about it today, my liege, but I didn't get the chance.

Your Kingly Motto is "Enim Gloriae Quidnonique".

It is directly translated as "For Glory and Whatnot", but that doesn't convey the connotations of some of the words.

Enim is For, as in "For I have sinned, O Lord".

Gloriae is the dative form of Gloria, meaning (as your kingship may have guessed) Glory.  The Dative form simply means to/for something, as in "I did this for you" or "I did this to you".  You may hear it called an "indirect object".  Some words are in "quotes".

Quidnonique is a made up word.  It come from Quid, meaning "What", as in "What is that?" and non, meaning not, as in "Do not do that."  The "i" makes this dative, as per third declention rules (don't ask.  You'll hurt your brain, my liege) and the "que" means "and".  You may have heard of "Senatus populusque romanus", which was the roman motto.  The "que" in "popolusque" means "and".  It's just easier and sounds better than throwing in an "et".
